England/Northern Ireland
England and Wales
There are no legal provisions on how many adults should be located with the children in kindergartens and schools of England and Wales. Nevertheless, the leadership of the Children Act 1989 and the publication of Don (DON, 1973) recommend at least two members of staff for every 26 children in kindergarten and at least two members of staff for every 20 children if the teacher performs other administrative responsibilities (for example, if he / she is a director). In both cases, one member of staff must be qualified teachers and the other - an assistant. Similar guidance applies to private kindergartens.
Northern Ireland
The recommended number of staff for pre-school children in the schools included in premiums in Northern Ireland - two people for 26 children who regularly attend school. One person - a qualified teacher, the other - qualified assistant teachers. Installation of pre-school education must ensure that the educational groups (regardless of who is funding the agency) for the year prior to compulsory education are trained at least eight children. It is considered very important for children to learn to work in groups.
